Let's Talk Ships # 6 | Meliodas & Elizabeth

The next couple to be discussed with Let's Talk Ships is none other than Meliodas and Elizabeth from the anime Seven Deadly Sins! Now if I have to be honest, I kinda fell off with Seven Deadly Sins around the fourth or the fifth season. Long story short, it kinda lost its appeal to me, but I may end up re-watching it or reading the manga. Anyway, let's jump into things starting with background!

Background

Meliodas:

First things first, Meliodas is known as the captain of the Seven Deadly Sins and is known as the Sin of Wrath. Now apparently, not too much is known about his childhood, but back in the day, Meliodas was trained by Chandler and was the leader of the Demon Clan's Ten Commandments. He was bestowed with the commandment of "Love" and he was held in really high regard, so much so that he was thought to become the next Demon King.

Not to mention that he had quite the reputation, seeing as he was said to be greatly feared by enemies of the Demon Clan. Plus, even the Four Archangels of the Goddess Clan feared Meliodas. In addition, he has a younger brother named Zeldris and their relationship seemed slightly complicated for lack of a better word. Maybe it has something to do with him being the favorite child of the Demon King. If I knew my sibling was the favorite, I don't think I'd be too bothered by it, but it can really get to certain siblings, and maybe that caused a slight strain on their relationship. Who knows?

Elizabeth:

As for Elizabeth, Elizabeth was one of the high-ranked members of the Goddess Clan and is the Supreme Deity's daughter. Now it was said that Goddess Elizabeth knew the Four Archangels from a young age and was even said to be very close to Mael, the younger brother of the Four Archangel's leader. In addition, something I happened to find interesting and actually didn't know, was that Elizabeth became a feared warrior during the Holy War. She was supposedly dreaded by the Demon Clan due to her combat skill - even going as far as to earn the moniker Bloodstained Ellie.

On the other hand, Elizabeth Liones happens to be the third adoptive princess of the Kingdom of Liones and the 107th & current incarnation of Goddess Elizabeth. Apparently, she's a survivor of Danafor's destruction and was adopted and raised by King Batra Liones.

How Did They Meet?

Believe it or not, they met roughly 3,000 years ago when Meliodas was associated with the Demon Clan and when Elizabeth was a Goddess. It's said that they met at some point after a battle. She had been flying around in the sky and Meliodas was in the nearest mountain. Apparently, they got to know each other pretty well due to their clans' brief peace. They would reunite in secret on the abandoned ruins of Heaven's Theater with Mael being the only one who knew of their meetings.

Now here's where we get into the Holy War.

For those that don't remember the Holy War was a huge conflict between the Demon Clan, and the Stigma alliance of the Goddess Clan, Fairy Clan, Giant Clan, and eventually the humans.

At this point, both Goddess Elizabeth and Meliodas wanted peace and wanted to avoid going to war; however, they ended up going to war anyway. I believe this had something to do with Meliodas and Goddess Elizabeth's involvement with each other as Meliodas ended up betraying his clan for her.

So so far, it sounds pretty cutesy and romantic, right?

Well, things get a bit dark and messed up.

During the last days of the Holy War, the Demon King and the Supreme Deity seemed to have enough of their defiance and decided to make them pay in the cruelest of ways. The Supreme Deity cursed Meliodas with immortality. And each time he passed on, he would be revived and his emotions would be consumed more and more until he returned to the bloodthirsty demon he once was.

While Elizabeth was cursed by the Demon King with Perpetual Reincarnation. Which basically forces her to live human lives in which she would always reunite with Meliodas and pass on before his very eyes time and time again.

I couldn't imagine what Melodias must felt.

To lose his loved one over and over.

Or worst of all, continuously not being able to do anything about it.

Verdict

If I have to be honest, I always thought this couple looked slightly odd side by side. Like I didn't like how child-like Meliodas looked beside her. Maybe it's the height or how he carried himself, I'm not sure. But I will say that Elizabeth is definitely more mature and that probably plays a role in the dynamic of their relationship. could I think this is a really good ship. One thing that sold me on this ship was how deep Meliodas's and Elizabeth's love ran. Not only did uphold through the cruelest of punishments, but Melodias is incredibly loyal to her and her only.

Dark Schneider could learn a thing or two.

This is a pretty unique anime love story.

At least for me.

I think it's impossible to not be touched by their love story in some sort of way or fashion.
